Christmas Day

‘Twas the night before Christmas and Aubry was not sleepy. I sent her to bed at 10:30, a tad bit weepy! I am joking. She was not weepy at all. I was just trying to find something that rhymed with sleepy. So, Aubry headed off to bed and I took that opportunity to finally finish wrapping gifts. I had such a late start on every thing that I was up until around 2:30 getting the last of the gifts wrapped. Normally, I would have had them under the tree about a week before Christmas but I really didn’t want Suko to digest the wrapping paper! So, I waited until Christmas Eve to get the gifts together. Let me back up and say that the day itself was very lovely. Aubry and I baked and decorated sugar cookies. We also put together a ginger bread house from a kit that I bought earlier in the day. It turned out really cute. I will post pics as soon as I get them off the camera. We spend the day playing games and smelling up the house with baked goodness! So, off to bed she went to get some sleep because I knew full well that Christmas day would be a long long day. Fast forward to Christmas morning. We got to sleep in a little bit and Aubry was so very patient while we tried to wake up. I made some coffee and then we settled in to open gifts. Let me just say Aubry is the most gracious child. I am not just saying that because she is my daughter. Honest. She truly is a gracious recipient. It makes gift giving that much more fun and enjoyable for me as her mom. After all the gifts were opened, we played with our new stuff. What else would we do! Seriously now?! Later that evening, Mary Jo and Mark came over to eat dinner and celebrate Christmas. We watched the rest of the debacle of the Cowboy game. How embarrassing was that? It was awful and I was so disappointed with their performance. Sigh. Any how, after the game we exchanged gifts and did some ooohing and aaahhhing! Later that night we took off to Hunter’s Uncles house to do our annual Chinese Christmas. I am sure many of you have done this before. The Barbosa family and the extended family is decent size and the best way to exchange gifts (and have fun doing it) is by way of the Chinese Christmas gift exchange. Each person brings a unisex gift and puts it in pile on the floor. Every one involved draws a number and you pick a gift from the pile. You can either pick from the pile or “steal” someone else’s already opened gift. So of course, the higher number you have the better chance you have to steal something you would really like to have! It is pretty fun and everyone is a really good sport. I must say that there was not one cheesy gift, so to speak. Now I realize that is not the reason for Christmas. I am simply saying that our family has good taste! Once the gift exchange festivities were over, we broke off into groups for the annual game playing night. Board games, cards games, etc. It was a great night. And the best part, I got to talk to my family that lives out of state. It is always wonderful to talk to everybody.

I hope every one of you had a very Merry Christmas. I pray for a fruitful New Year for all of my friends and family!
