Design Studio

Our trip to the design studio was awesome. I was not really overwhelmed and that was in part to Hunter and the design expert that was there. I was going to bring the camera but I decide it was not necessary. Now I am regretting that decision. Oh well. At least I know what we decided on. One thing we did not do was put in hard wood on the bottom floor. As much as I wanted to, I could not see spending an extra 10 grand on that. Hunter and I decided to go with a really good carpeting and a half inch pad underneath. That was only an extra $1200 for the entire house as opposed to the 10 grand for just the bottom floor of hard wood. We decided our upgrades could be better spent on cabinets and counter tops along with a really good carpet throughout. Any how, Hunter and I can rip that carpet up later and put in wood floors if we decide to. The good thing though, the entry way is tile as is the area that leads into the house from the garage. That is the highest traffic area here and that is where the carpeting is the grossest. So, we are okay with it. We went with honey maple cabinets, a really nice 13 by 13 tile that will be in the kitchen, dining, entry and laundry area. The tile blends really nice. It is more of a neutral with a nice blend of the honey color to compliment the cabinets. We went with Staron counter tops in an almost chocolate color with specs of neutrals throughout. The tile backsplash is the same tile as we chose for the floor. They will be placed at 45 degree angle with 4 inch square inserts of random stone. It looks so beautiful together. The bathrooms, we chose a white tile with grey spec and white cabinets. The biggest difference is going to be in the masterbath. Since we chose to have the tub taken out and the shower extended, we got to choose the tile for the shower as well. We decided to use the same floor tile and put it in the double shower. The fixtures through out the house are brushed nickle....not a lick of brass or gold! Yippee!!!! Oh and the wet bar in the game room will have the same honey maple cabinets but a different type of counter top. I don't remember the color exactly, but it is a laminate something of another! There are other little things that we are having put in like different type faucets and door knobs, things like that. Over all, it was a great experience but I am glad it is done! I am so anxious for them to break ground and even more anxious to see if what we chose will match! Hehe! Oh the brick color on the outside and the paint was also chosen by us. It is a neutral as well, but not boring by any means. But the door....the door is beautiful. It is a dark wood to offset the color of the brick and paint. But it not just a plain wood door. It has a beautiful and huge etched glass insert. Way cool! Okay, enough on the house. Later! :)
