Let the demolition begin!

I did something this weekend that was rather therapeutic! Hunter and I decided to tackle some of the home repairs ourselves so we headed to Lowe’s with our list and checkbook in hand (but not before we assessed the repairs). Without going into too much detail, we bought the supplies to replace the window trim on the two rear exterior windows and to add the foot extension to the attic stairs. We also picked up another smoke detector, 9V batteries, easel vent, spackle, silicon sealer for nail heads on the roof line, replacement curtains…..blah blah blah. So, here is the therapeutic part for me. I did the demolition stuff! I grabbed a claw hammer and ripped the old trim off the windows. There were some pieces of wood that literally fell apart. That is how rotted the trim was in some areas. I am still not sure how or why it got so bad. I am guessing that we are responsible for making sure the paint is continuously scrapped off and re-applied so that the wood is weather proofed forever. As a new home owner (actually we have been in this house for 7 years, but in our defense it is our first home!), these are things that we are supposed to take care of but honestly did not know. We know now and plan to maintain the new house very well. Any how, overall the inspection revealed very minor things that we can handle ourselves with the exception of one item that we plan to have a contractor come in to fix for us.

Overall, this weekend was a good one and very productive. I packed the dining room, cleaned this and that, did a clean sweep on the kitchen, spackled nail holes, removed the cornice board along with the custom made curtains. I put up a couple of neutral panels so there would be something up there for the new homeowner. We did have some fun on Saturday. We went out for a very nice dinner. Decided to treat ourselves since the next few weeks will be pretty busy. Aubry did have a friend spend the night on Friday. They had a great time and it gave me a chance to get some stuff done since Aubry had a friend over.

On a side note, if some of this is repetative I am terribly sorry. I am not about to read all of my entries to see what I have mentioned so that I will not mention it again. :)
